Seasonal report of the Austrian avalanche warning services 2010/11

Reading tip: Seasonal report of the Austrian avalanche warning services

by Tobias Kurzeder 12/02/2011
This is the second edition of the winter report jointly compiled and published by the avalanche warning services of all Austrian provinces. As expected, the reader will not only find an interesting and extremely profound review of the miserable (freeride) winter of 2011 in the 2010/11 winter report, but also lots of other interesting information from the avalanche warning centers of the respective warning services.

For the second time, the winter report of the avalanche warning services of all Austrian provinces has been compiled and published jointly by all Austrian avalanche warning services. As expected, readers will not only find an interesting and extremely profound review of the miserable (freeride) winter of 2011 in the 2010/11 winter report, but also lots of other interesting information from the avalanche warning centers of the respective warning services.

In the final, general chapter, the introduction of avalanche danger patterns by the Tyrolean avalanche warning service is analyzed and evaluated. The "Snow-Safe-App" for the uncomplicated everywhere retrieval of avalanche situation reports is also presented. New avalanche warning methods and tools are also presented here.

Disappointingly, from the reader's point of view, the creators have not remained true to their grandiose layout concept (by the agency "grafische auseinandersetzung"): the current design looks rather dull in comparison. The visual and tactile difference between the 2010 and 2011 editions is just as great as the difference between the crisp, but snow-poor winter of 2010 and the dull, sunny winter of 2011.
