Performance in storms and cold: Atomic Revent GT AMID and Four Q HD

01/11/2026
Antonia Paulus
Flat light, icy nights and changing conditions - that's exactly where we want to be able to rely on our equipment. The Atomic Revent GT AMID helmet and Atomic Four Q HD goggles have been tested in the backcountry, on ski tours, skiing and snowboarding, day and night. Find out here how Merino comfort, AMID protection and HD lens technology complement each other and why good vision often makes the difference between hesitation and flow.

First impression

The white helmet and sand-colored goggles were tested: a combination that is not only visually impressive, but also technically. The flattened edges of the ski goggles fit the helmet perfectly. The result: no "Jerry Gap" between helmet and goggle.

Thanks to Atomic's progressive 360° fit, the helmet can be adjusted quickly and precisely - even when wearing gloves. It fits perfectly on the head within seconds. The non-slip goggle strap with rubber strips in combination with the fixation on the helmet ensures that the goggles stay where they belong - whether you're hiking, tobogganing or skiing downhill.

The merino lining of the helmet is a real highlight. My ears were always warm and well protected from the wind. As a merino fan, I also appreciate the temperature-regulating properties, which ensure less sweating and comfortable warmth. The ventilation openings are easy to open and close and prevent me from overheating.

The ski goggles are equipped with HD lens technology and come with an additional interchangeable lens for bad weather, night or foggy conditions.

About me & the conditions

My head circumference is 58 cm, the helmet was tested in size M (55-59 cm). The ski goggles are unisex, but cut more for wider faces. As the snow conditions in Austria were not very good recently (and a spontaneous trip to Italy was unfortunately canceled), I went in search of snow around Innsbruck. I tested it on: Night ski tours, tobogganing sessions, off-piste runs, ski tours and classic piste runs with skis and snowboard. Temperatures: from +5 °C to -15 °C.

The ski goggles were particularly tested in changing light conditions - for example during sunsets from the mountain station to the valley on the Arlberg or Kappl in low light and twilight. Contrast and contour sharpness are crucial for me. Especially in off-piste terrain, good visibility is crucial for the choice of line and therefore for safety and flow. In short: good visibility = a good ride.

Test experience

The helmet

Cold ears? History. I used to ride with a hood under my helmet and warm ears were a rarity. With the Atomic Revent GT AMID this is no longer an issue. The merino lining hugs the ears and keeps them nice and warm, even in double-digit sub-zero temperatures. The AMID 360° technology offers additional protection in the event of rotational impact: an important safety feature, especially in light snow or off-road conditions. (Fortunately, I haven't tested this, but I trust the technology here).

The Progressive 360° Fit adapts directly to the head. No familiarization phase, no pressing - put it on, adjust it, done. With a weight of 490 g (size S), the helmet may not be ultra-light, but it is absolutely suitable for touring. For my clearly downhill-oriented ambitions, a few extra grams are not a dealbreaker.

The helmet stayed warm at -15 °C, and when the sun was shining on the Arlberg, the open ventilation openings provided pleasant cooling. Particularly practical: the magnetic closure, which can be opened and closed quickly even with my mittens. The inner lining is quick and easy to remove, so nothing stands in the way of hygiene.

The ski goggles

The Atomic Four Q HD has a large and wide cut, which has a positive effect on the impressive field of vision. The HD lens technology is particularly impressive on steep lines, in changing light or with low contrast. The magnetic Q system works reliably and is easy to operate even when wearing gloves. Changing lenses at night, in fog or in the cold? No problem.

One minor drawback: my face is rather narrow, so the goggles sit a little low at high speeds and slide slightly towards my nose. Off-road, on the other hand, they are completely convincing. Contrasts, colors and contours remain clearly visible and give me confidence.

We all know the classic situation: sunset, last descent, flat light. With these goggles, I was able to assess humps, edges and terrain shapes much better. The result: more confidence, more flow and simply more fun, whether on skis or snowboard.

Conclusion

The helmet and goggles complement each other both technically and visually. For me, the helmet scores with comfort, warmth and safety features, the goggles with a huge field of vision and strong contrast rendition. Especially recommended for slightly wider faces. For freeriders who are out and about a lot in changing conditions and value safety, comfort and good visibility, this combo is definitely worth considering.
