GearReview | Namuk Skiing Pants and Skiing Jacket from the Upcycled Collection

Stylish and sophisticated unique upcycled items for little snow leopards.

by Christiane Eggert 12/12/2024
Namuk has long since made a name for itself beyond Switzerland's borders as an innovative and sustainable company when it comes to outdoor clothing for children. To avoid additional waste, Namuk is launching a collection made from fabric remnants left over from production. In this test report, we have the honour of taking a closer look at the unique and limited edition upcycled items.

Testers and test conditions

The tester is 5 years old, 118 cm tall, 20 kg and wears the test clothing on 15 days in all weathers, from snowfall to Siberian snow leopard cold.

The pants and jacket were not only used for skiing, but also in the kindergarden and for wild missions as a snow leopard in the forest.

Test report

Crusade Skihose – upcycled

The pants have a very nice cut, the colour is "Mountain Green" and the size is 122. As our snow leopard has always worn ski suits (one-piece suits) and the trousers come without bib and braces, we are curious to see how long it will take for snow to slip into the trousers.

The size 122 is as expected, even if the trousers are currently still a little large. However, thanks to the adjustable waist fastener, they can be easily adjusted. With ski boots, the length is perfect - and we hope that they will still fit next year. Thanks to the PrimaLoft organic lining, the trousers offer reliable protection against the cold and are extremely water-repellent. Combined with ski underwear or fleece trousers, they effortlessly defy even double-digit sub-zero temperatures.

One highlight is the high level of comfort: the trousers offer great freedom of movement and the robust fabric makes them ideal for active outdoor days. We particularly like the reinforced leg cuffs on the inside, which effectively protect against damage from ski edges.

At almost six years old, putting on and taking off the ski trousers independently is a matter of honour - and this is where the Crusade ski trousers score again. The fasteners are easy to use, even with gloves, which not only pleases children, but also parents and ski instructors.

The Overall Connection System has clearly answered the question of whether snow would slip into the trousers without a bib or braces: it does what it promises and doesn't let snow in.

Conclusion 1

The Crusade ski trousers combine functionality, comfort and well thought-out details - a great companion for little adventurers that won't lose any of its quality even after several years of use. A real highlight in any winter kit!

Mission Skiing Jacket – upcycled

The jacket, also in the colour Mountain Green and size 122, is lined with PrimaLoft Bio and proved to be wind and waterproof during the test period - ideal for any winter adventure.

There are practical ventilation zips under the sleeves that ensure pleasant air circulation. The cuffs can also be individually adjusted using Velcro fasteners. Further plus points are the numerous pockets, which offer plenty of space for treasures such as beautiful stones, pine cones or small snacks.

The reflective prints increase the visibility of the little tester in the dark and give parents a reassuring feeling when the little snow leopards go exploring at dusk.

With a little practice, our tester (still without gloves) was able to connect the jacket to the Overall Connection System independently - another practical feature that ensures that snow stays outside.

Conclusion

The jacket and trousers not only impress with their modern style and excellent functionality, but also give us parents a good feeling in terms of sustainability. The high-quality workmanship and well thought-out details give us hope that they will easily last for two winter seasons. So nothing stands in the way of wild snow adventures. Grooooooarrr.

Here are the most important points at a glance:

Plus:

  • Great workmanship and well thought-out details (especially chin protection, Lycra cuffs, waste pocket, reflectors and reinforcements on the trousers)

  • Waterproof and windproof

  • Cosy and warm thanks to PrimaLoft lining

  • Great design

  • Good conscience thanks to sustainable product

Minus:

  • Boys can go to the toilet without any problems. For girls, however, the zip system could be an obstacle if they need to go quickly

  • The clip on the trousers to connect them to the shoes is a little difficult to handle

  • Light-coloured fabrics on the bottom get dirty more quickly in muddy, wet weather despite the water-repellent material. Dirt becomes more visible than with darker fabrics

  • High price (but it definitely pays for itself with its durability and optional repair service!)
