ACCOMMODATION EXAMPLE
Accommodation is provided according to choice and availability. Our tip: The Ski Lodge. The Ski Lodge Engelberg was established in 2008 to create a meeting place for all those who love the mountains as much as the founders. The owners, enthusiastic skiers themselves, have collected numerous impressions on their travels around the world and have made it their mission to combine their best experiences in their own hotel. The result is a place with delicious cuisine, regional wines, an inviting bar for stimulating conversations and dedicated staff who appreciate both good service and the mountains in equal measure. Today, the Ski Lodge is considered the "headquarters" of the international freeride scene and has established itself far beyond its original meeting place. Its unique flair is highly appreciated by a wide audience as well as by locals.
THE FREERIDE MECCA
Engelberg-Titlis has developed into a true Mecca for freeriders in Switzerland and Europe. This is partly due to the varied terrain, the unique microclimate and the resulting above-average snowfall. The so-called "Big 5" - five freeride routes that can be accessed directly from the mountain railways or ski lifts - are particularly famous. If you are looking for the ultimate freeride experience, you can tackle all of the "Big 5" on a good day and cover around 10,000 metres in altitude.
One of the most famous freeride runs in the world is the "Laub", and for good reason. As soon as you arrive in Engelberg, the Laub is hard to miss. The wide descent looks majestic and impressive. With a gradient of 32 to 38 degrees, it is one of the steeper and more spectacular routes that thrill freeride enthusiasts.
The "Big 5" also include the Steinberg (a route over the glacier), Steinitäli, Sulz and the famous royal descent, the Galtiberg. The latter is one of the longest freeride descents in the world. The route leads from Klein Titlis over 2,000 metres in altitude down into the Engelberg Valley. This demanding tour is only recommended for experienced freeriders, as the Galtiberg is a challenge due to both its length and the terrain - even for experienced freeride pros.
In addition to the "Big 5", the region around Engelberg also offers numerous other ski tours that can be tackled on touring skis. The area is known for its mountain panoramas and steep descents, which are a true paradise for ski tourers away from the classic pistes.
