And while they are still riding towards doom in the form of a hidden root or a core shot in the eastern Alps on the thin base in order to get one last face shot, they remember the words of Ullr the White:

"Look to my coming on the first light of the fifth day, at dawn look to the North" because help will come from there in the form of the second dump, which will finally, just before the end of winter, give the East another real pow day WITH BASE.

There's a base, it stays cold and there'll be more powder with another nordstau. And just when the first dump is gone and hope seems far away, the next dump crashes into the Alps. The forces of good win, at least in this pre-Easter week.

Alert period and areas

The alert runs from Monday morning to Wednesday afternoon, by which everything should be over.

The alert extends from the Salzkammergut to the northern Lower Valais. It is nordstau, but the outlying areas are not receiving much. But it's also flaking in France and on the Rax.

The core, and that is the heart of the matter, is constantly shifting back and forth. The oracle's palantir shows it from the Bernese Alps to the Arlberg, but it can also go as far east as Innsbruck (north of there of course, it's nordstau!).

The amounts

In the peripheral areas from the Salzkammergut to Innsbruck there will be 30-60cm in the nordstau and the foothills of the Alps. We also have similar amounts from the northern Lower Valais to the Bernese Alps.

From Innsbruck to the Arlberg we are in a joker zone. I say 40-70 cm is definitely possible there. But the zone can also be part of the core. A few exotic palantirs want the core even further east, but I don't see that happening.

In the core, from the Arlberg to the Bernese Alps, there are 60-90 cm and I can also imagine the occasional meter there in a Stau hole.

Where should I go?

I would go into the trees in the core on Monday, because Monday afternoon can be quite nice there.

Tuesday is trees everywhere (and possibly meadows in the east), because it's snowing heavily.

On Wednesday, it will clear quite early in western Switzerland, but in northern Switzerland and at the Arlberg probably only around midday. In the east it could also clear, but it could also stay cloudy.

So plan with combined areas on Wednesday.

Medium term

From Thursday it will be sunny everywhere but still quite cool, which means: great touring days ahead.

It's still unclear whether it will get warmer and stay sunny towards the weekend or whether a disturbance will move in.

So: Enjoy the best days of winter and watch out for sharks, orcs and old snow problems so that you don't end up on Mount Doom unexpectedly.
