But it's not summer yet either, so there's something in between. The ski resorts are slowly closing, it's almost May, but it's not impossible that something will happen towards the end of April.

So an oracle does what an oracle has to do and hopes that this won't be the last sign of life for the 2025/26 season.

Alert period and areas

It's snowing in the south from north-western Ticino to southern Piedmont. Not bad in principle, as there is a base further up and to the north, if it weren't for the snow line.

The alert runs from Sunday evening to Tuesday afternoon.

Wind

Coupled with the strange frontal system that is wrapping around the Alps, there is hardly any wind. It's also spring and warm, so there's hardly any wind even at the very top.

Where should I go?

You can safely skip Monday. Descents below the tree line won't work properly, there's only Glop^TM. On Tuesday, before it gets warm again, I would quickly head up to the last open areas on the Monte Rosa or the main ridge of the Valais to find one or two powder turns above 2500-2700 m on the north side. After that it will be very warm again and spring rules will apply again.

Medium term

Spring, warmth and firn tours are back on the agenda. Further snow is being removed. Whether the twitching in the glass globes at the end of April (rather in the south or towards the main ridge) will still be something is written in the stars.
