Yay! another alert, but it's probably getting too warm. The last alert was perfect, but this one is just glop©* *the © is silent and is only important because PowderGuide owns all registered naming rights to this water-saturated fresh snow.

Loosely based on Rilke: Ullr lets his wet ribbon flutter on the slopes and the oracle becomes a spring poet. The next suedstau is on the cards, but it will be relatively warm and Saharan dust comes with it free of charge. The positive thing is that any snowfall at least further up extends the season a little and we can use any precipitation this season.

Alert period and areas

The alert goes until midday on Monday and from the Turin Alps to Ticino.

There may also be alert amounts in the IT/AT/SLO border triangle.

Snow line

Quite high to very high and where it is lower due to precipitation intensity, the snow is still moist.

So protected in the southwest between 1500 and 1900m.

In the foothills of the Alps and in the southeast between 1800 and 2200m. The glop line is everywhere between 1900 and 2400m (it essentially follows the zero degree line and can also be quite far above the snow line in isothermal conditions). So it will be difficult with the trees on Sunday.

Probably a little lower in the core on Sunday than on Saturday.

The amounts

From Ticino to the Turin Alps, 30-50cm of snow will fall above 2200-2300m, higher up in Stau areas possibly 60 to 70cm. In the rest of the south below, or, in the east, bordering alarm amounts at similar snow levels.

Where should I go?

On Saturday, the local pub is probably the only place worth visiting, as a nasty foehn storm is raging in the north and it's only really starting to snow in the south.

On Sunday, hardy souls who are very antsy could head for trees above 1800m in the direction of Simplon, Aosta or north-western Ticino. The more isolated the valley, the greater the chance of escaping the glop.

On Monday, the snowfall will end and there may be gaps in the cloud cover further up. After that, it will probably be sunny.

Mid-term

Sunny but not excessively warm, so something should still be possible in the south. Possibly something will come in again from the northwest next weekend. Whether this will be suitable for an alarm is still unclear.
