04/21/2016 • Lars OelmannUllr doesn't let himself get carried away and unpacks high winter weather conditions after most ski resorts close. With the exception of Ullr's disciples, people everywhere are complaining about it. -

PowderAlert 17 2015/16 | A last hurrah?
04/15/2016 • Lars OelmannIt's mid-April and winter is slowly saying goodbye. The snow line creeps southwards into the high Alps and we study the weather maps hopefully to see if powder is on the way. The disciples of Ullr can actually saddle up their poles once again and go hunting. -

Where has it snowed the most?
02/07/2016 • Philip Crivelli
Who isn't interested in finding out exactly what the conditions are like in a particular area? How much fresh snow has fallen, what has the wind done or the temperature? This is where the available weather portals or avalanche reports reach their limits - the limits of communicability. This is where the measured values come into play: they provide very timely and valuable information on a specific point. -

PowderAlert number 8 - The reset
02/01/2016 • Lars OelmannThe snow from the last alarm came and went. The waxing and waning of Alert 7 is over and the rain slurry is now freezing to the new base, where it hasn't been washed away. And it's going to get a surprisingly nice pack of snow by Friday. -

PowderAlert 7 - An alarm like stale beer
01/29/2016 • Lars Oelmann
As happy as you are to have beer, you just don't enjoy stale beer. It's the same with this alarm. It may be snowing, but it quickly gets so warm that you can't enjoy it. -

PowderAlert number three - The end of October
01/02/2016 • Lars OelmannI've almost forgotten how to interpret weather maps, it's been so awful the last few weeks. But October is finally over and January seems to want to live up to its image as a winter month, at least for a few days. -

PowderAlert Episode I - The awakening of winter
11/19/2015 • Lars OelmannThe time has finally come! The saga continues. I hope George Lucas forgives me for my entry and doesn't sue me. And no, I can't tell you if you can see Luke Skywalker's hand reaching for R2D2 in the trailer for "Star Wars - The Force Awakens", but I can tell you where it's snowing. That's what I'm here for and what we've all been waiting for. -

WeatherBlog 17/2015 | A spring fairy tale
03/11/2015 • Lea Hartl
Once upon a time, a high pressure bridge over Central Europe provided stable mountain weather for days on end. Unfortunately, the wind didn't really want to play along, so the avalanche situation remained tense in many places, and annoyingly on a sunny weekend with fresh snow ... -

PowderAlert No. 17 2015 | West jam ahead!
02/28/2015 • Lars Oelmann
Ahoy you powder pirates. Ullr has promised loot and now the dump is appearing in the telescopes. After the rain is before the snow. It has already started to snow, or rather to rain below 1600 to 2000 m, and will continue to snow until Tuesday night or early Tuesday morning, with the snow line dropping and it will also snow again at usable altitudes. There will be a westerly flow across the entire northern slope of the Alps, but the largest amounts will come from the Lower Valais to the French Hautes Alpes. -

PowderAlert No. 16 2015 | Ullr's Restaurant
02/22/2015 • Lars Oelmann
Chef Ullr has realized that powder-hungry people in the northwest of the Alps have only been served lousy food for a while now and is trying to change that: by preparing a delicious northwest current for you and sprucing up the run-down northern Alps, just like his colleagues on TV do with the restaurants. But first there's something quick for in between, a powder snack so to speak.
