The oracle has already announced the key points: The coming days will bring heavy north-westerly accumulation with lots of fresh snow and wind. In terms of snowfall, the eastern Alps (from around Arlberg) look better than the west. A look at the large-scale structures explains why this is the case! -

WeatherBlog 8 2022/23 | Winter is back!
01/11/2023 • Lea Hartl
After a long break, the PowderOracle has brought us good news. Maybe there will even be another alarm at the weekend? Thanks to a strong north-westerly current, the next few days will be pretty wintry and at least the north will gradually get a base layer in mid-altitudes too! Also: New glacier study with predictably bad news for the ice in the Alps. -

PowderAlert 3 2022/23 | Restart in January
01/08/2023 • Lars OelmannThis could be a great season if there is already so much snow in October. Oh wait.... The amount of CRs on PowderGuide makes the sad situation clear. Below 2220m there is virtually nothing and above that we are at 30-60% of the long-term average. -

Rumor has it that winter and the time of white splendour is finally here! It's time for real freeriding opportunities to replace scratching on the glacier remains or scraping on the grassy slopes. Of course, the snow hint game wants to help you and show you where the most snow has fallen with an educated guess! -

End of the season
05/02/2022 • PowderGuide
PowderGuide is saying goodbye for the summer. This means that, with a few exceptions, we are suspending our editorial work and the weather service is also taking a break until it gets wintry again. Of course, we would be delighted if all those who are still out and about continue to report on their tours in the ConditionsReports! -

WeatherBlog 20 2021/22 | April weather
04/06/2022 • Lea Hartl
After the dry, dusty March, the unsettled April weather is a relief, at least according to the WeatherBlog. Finally something is happening again! In the last few days, with fresh snow and low temperatures, there has even been a real winter feeling, even if the base unfortunately leaves a lot to be desired. It will continue to be changeable and stormy until the weekend, then the weather should calm down. -

Snow height prediction game 2021/22
12/27/2021 • Anselm Köhler
Every fall has come to an end. Every winter, the first snow has enchanted the landscape. Every year, the bikes and climbing gear can be swapped for the skis from the summer camps at some point. This year was the same, only the snow climbing game extended the fall by 6 weeks and was on the road. -

April weather lives up to its name and brings us a late PowderAlert after the first days of summer in March. A combination of high pressure over the Atlantic and a pronounced low pressure complex over northern Scandinavia is pumping cold polar air towards us. -

WeatherBlog 9 2020/21 | Winter-like temperatures
01/13/2021 • Lea Hartl
After the labyrinthine social distancing lift queuing system had brought us together by chance and we had taken our seats as far apart from each other as possible in the four-seater chair, my lift colleague mumbled through his FFP2 mask: "A temperature like in winter!" -

PowderAlert 3 2020/21 | A little Christmas makeup in the north
12/23/2020 • Lars OelmannThere isn't (much) snow in the north yet, it's warm and there are thin layers of snow everywhere. At least Ullr has seen sense and wants to make the whole thing at least visually appealing on the festive days.
