Skirucksack

With the SUMMIT 20, Evoc is launching a compact, no-frills and very lightweight backpack this season, which we tested for you while ski touring and freeriding.

Who wouldn’t want a backpack that’s versatile enough for almost any adventure? Whether as a daily companion in the city, at university, or the climbing gym, as a daypack for hiking, ski touring, and skiing, or on a winter splitboard tour with an overnight hut stay—the Nirvana 28 from Swiss outdoor brand Mammut is designed to handle it all.

A very light and convincingly well-fitting backpack made of robust material, which is rather spartanly equipped. The EL2 system encourages practising, as it is easy to use and the backpack can be folded up and loaded again effortlessly after deployment. With a well thought-out packing strategy, the pack volume offers sufficient space for all one-day adventures.

With the Aenergy ST 20-25, Mammut is launching a lightweight ski touring backpack onto the market, which is intended to be the ideal backpack for fast-paced tours in particular. For this reason, Mammut has opted for a mixture of trail and ski touring backpack in the design.

The Mammut Free 22 is one of the lightest airbag backpacks on the market and also impresses in the practical test in Japan. With a little Tetris, it is even suitable for day tours.

Thanks to its modular design, the Arva Airbag Ride 18 Switch promises to be the ideal solution for all types of freeriding: its modular design ensures compactness when travelling in the ski area, while additional attachments enable expansion for tours of all kinds. With a focus on functionality and high safety standards, the avalanche backpack from Arva is designed to be a versatile and reliable companion for freeriding.

The electronic LiTRIC airbag relies on supercapacitors to inflate the airbag, which enables a very lightweight electronic airbag system. Of course, the system also offers all the familiar advantages of an electronically operated airbag, such as being very easy to carry on the aircraft, problem-free test deployments and, last but not least, no need to dispose of and procure cartridges.

In 2022, the Ortovox Avabag LiTRIC system was one of the innovations at the ISPO fare. At just 1100 grams, it is lightweight, technically sophisticated and reliable and enables at least two releases with just one charge. Ortovox even won the ISPO Award and the Red Dot Design Award for it.

With the Dimension Avalanche Backpack, POC now also has an airbag backpack in its programme. The well-known Alpride E2 system with supercapacitors is used, which in this case comes in a POC backpack. We took a closer look at the combination.

The Tour 30 Women Removable Airbag 3.0 from Mammut promises optimum carrying comfort with a hip belt customised for women and a shorter back length. Thanks to its low weight, the good organisation of the interior and its visually appealing appearance, the backpack will make freeriding and ski touring fans' hearts beat faster.

The Alpride system, which is powered by supercapacitors instead of gas cartridges, avoids many of the usual disadvantages of airbag backpacks, such as the expensive and time-consuming replacement of cartridges. The system is also lightweight. We have tested the Scott Patrol E2 30 for you.

According to EVOC, the LINE PRO 30 is THE "touring backpack with freeride qualities" and combines touring with the needs of freeriding without compromising on comfort and safety. In the test, the backpack lived up to the promises made by its creators, with the high level of carrying comfort standing out in particular.
