Gear of the week | Douze cargo bike
01/31/2021 • Totti LingottiWith the thaw of the last few days, the fantastic winter landscape in the Black Forest has unfortunately been washed away for the time being. For over a month, the conditions - apart from a brief warm period - were almost Canadian. At least the fir trees looked like deep snow-covered Sitka spruces in Canada the whole time. And the snow quality was most reminiscent of North America, but certainly not of the Black Forest - synonyms such as "Baden Columbia" or "Little Canada" were heard again and again. -

Snow of Tomorrow | Out and about in the wildlife habitat
01/18/2021 • Birgit Kantner (ÖAV)
"Respect your boundaries", "Experience the Tyrolean mountain world together", "Naturally on tour", "Your recreational area - my habitat" are all slogans and campaigns that remind us that we are out in nature, in the forest and on the mountain in the habitat of our native wild animals, in their "home" so to speak, and that we are guests there. -

Snow of tomorrow | Freetouring in the mountaineering villages of the Carnic Alps
12/28/2020 • Jan Salcher
The mountaineering villages of the Tyrolean Gail and Lesach valleys lie hidden under a thick blanket of snow. The record precipitation at the beginning of December has once again underlined the Carnic Alps' reputation as a snow-sure region. The basis for a winter full of tours has thus been laid several meters high and will continue into the spring. -

The Grünstein bypass is a real classic in the Mieminger mountains. Even if it is certainly not the loneliest tour, the circuit with its more than 1500 m descent offers a treat to many in terms of scenery and downhill technique. -

Ski touring is contagious
12/15/2020 • Stephan SkrobarWhen the summer of 2020 was really in full swing, the days were still scorching hot, the lakes were at a pleasant temperature and people were hanging on rock faces outside or busily writing poems for summit books, the request came for an essay on the subject of "Ski touring and what effects Corona will have on ski touring". -

12/04/2020 • PowderGuideThe Tyrolean clinics have informed the ORF that heart-lung machines are in short supply. These are also repeatedly used to treat avalanche victims. At present, the clinics cannot guarantee that they will have enough equipment in the event of a serious avalanche accident with one or even several buried victims. -

There is more than enough storage space for one-day ski tours and it is also suitable for multi-day ski tours. For a quick run, the backpack can be compressed using the side straps and is easy on the back muscles thanks to its very low weight. So there's no excuse to leave your avalanche backpack at home! -

TouringTip | Roascharte
11/26/2020 • Christian SkalaExcellent espresso, sunshine and a landscape to fall in love with - it can only be Italy. Away from the hustle and bustle around the Sella massif, you will find the Roascharte in the Puez-Geisler group in the western Dolomites. We choose the quiet, north-facing ascent, where there are still very good opportunities for powder snow, even quite late in the season.
