WeatherBlog 5 2020/21 | Mild, windy, future uncertain
12/16/2020 • Lea Hartl
The more southerly parts of the Alps up to the main ridge and a little beyond now have a decent base after the extreme southerly dust, while the northern Alps still have to wait. The different conditions can also be seen in the CRs at the moment: In the south and southwest, powder is great, while in northern Salzburger Land a reporter has to make do with ski tours on frozen fields, slightly sugared. -

Videos of the Week #4 2020/21 | Südstau and privileges
12/11/2020 • Sebastian MüllerThe südstau has delivered, the mountains are full of white splendor. The videos are still lagging a little behind, but we're already seeing something from the Italian Dolomites! Plus a fresh film from Austria and a slightly older French one from the Julian Alps. Also: once again, we can't get past Nikolai Schirmer. -

WeatherBlog 4 2020/21 | südstau! Review & outlook
12/09/2020 • Lea Hartl
The influence of low pressure will remain until the weekend. It will continue to flake here and there, but the extreme snowfall - more on this in the current alert - will come to an end. This is a good thing for the core areas of the southern congestion. -

PowderAlert 2 2020/21 | Mr. Ullr? More please!
12/07/2020 • Lars OelmannIt's served. In large parts of the Southern Alps, we are still nibbling on the sumptuous powder menu of the last few days, and Ullr is already preparing dessert! -

PowderAlert 1 2020/21 | Infected by the powder virus?
12/03/2020 • Lars OelmannLife in times of improvisation. One thing in advance to prevent angry protest emails: We as PowderGuide are not trying to persuade you to cuddle up in a group in an infection gondola. For some, however, there is an opportunity to have fun in the snow without dancing with the R-value, which is why we want to make every effort this season to introduce you to the regions with the best snow in the Alert! If you can and are allowed to go, you're in luck! -

WeatherBlog 3 2020/21 | Something is happening!
12/02/2020 • Lea Hartl
The weather uniformity of sun and high fog is coming to an end! There is potential for large amounts of precipitation in the südstau from Friday. The northern Alps will also get a few flakes here and there, but it's more likely to be the Föhn that will shape the snow cover at the weekend. -

01/04/2020 • German WehingerThe Nassfeld ski resort on the border with Italy in the south of Austria usually benefits from the südstau. Extreme amounts of snow are not uncommon here and are not a problem as long as they are acceptable for the environment. -

Now that Star Wars is finally (really?!) coming to an end and Skywalker's heirs are beginning their final space ride, an exciting pre-Christmas week is about to begin. Ullr has had enough of far too high temperatures and in the coming südstau there is at least the chance of good snow again in the western Southern Alps. And that's just the beginning. May the force be with us! -

WeatherBlog 5 2019/20 | Foehn, foehn, foehn
12/18/2019 • Lea Hartl
The current southerly foehn conditions are almost creating a summer feeling, especially in western Austria and parts of Switzerland: in Feldkirch (Vorarlberg), 20°C were measured at 3 a.m. on Tuesday, and temperatures were also close to the 20° mark at some other stations on Tuesday morning. -

12/16/2019 • Lars OelmannThe traffic jam has cleared and the west highway has been closed by Ullr. After all, our Scandinavian god is still not idle and is once again turning his attention to the south of the Alps. -

WeatherBlog 3 2019/20 | Foot cold, mild at high altitude
12/04/2019 • Lea Hartl
High pressure determines the weather in the Alpine region. A high pressure system is currently arching over Central Europe with a simultaneous low pressure influence in the south. Over the next few days, the high will flatten out and the large-scale flow will become more zonal. If the whole thing were a little further south, we would have "western Alpine weather", but as the frontal zone is quite far to the north, we will remain under high pressure for the time being. -

Videos of the Week #2 2019/20 | Let's go ECO pro!
11/29/2019 • Sebastian MüllerOf course, we have the first moving images of the Southern Alps on offer. But we are mainly dedicated to the new generation of professional freeriders who seem to run their own YouTube channels. After all, are the days of big productions over? Do freeride pros now have to film and market themselves? Is switch skiing, backflips and drinking beer no longer enough? As an encore, there is also a WDR documentary about "Skiing in Afghanistan, the Olympics and St. Moritz".
