Videos of the Week #15 2024/25 Départ and Research and Development NST

Salomon is back in the park!

03/07/2025 by Hannes Hemper
The season is nearing spring, only slush in the Alps, but on the other side of the world in Canada, there were still a few days of snow for the Natural Selection Women’s Tour in Whitewater. There’s also some BTS footage from snowboard filming, and Todd Ligare is back with a double video part!

Video 1: OPEN - SD_archive

Salomon is back in the Freeski world! Sami Ortlieb and Nico Vaugnier have put together a new team over the last few years and released the Depart Ski. With its short radius and carvy feel, it invites riders to go outside the norm. Johan Lovely, aka Sleepy Grill, styles through the streets, while Dane Kirk from New Zealand opens the video with a bang – Slush Backcountry Jumps included!

In the second video, we get to see more of the team and the development behind the ski. A refreshing project in the freeski world – away from big comps, with a focus on individuality and style.

Video 2: Todd Ligare "On the Hunt" PT 1&2

Todd Ligare is back! It’s steep and fast – as an Armada team rider, who is behind the Declivity and Locator series, he makes turns in terrain where no one would usually go.

Heavy rock music with heavy lines – enjoy the ride! A combo you just can’t get enough of.

Video 3: CLOSE TO HOME. Skiing my favorite zone at Eikedalen.

We’re in the mountains of Norway, at the Eikedalen Resort. Benjamin totally surprised me here – great lines, but the choice of features and tricks on them really impressed me. Big rock lips with Dub Backies and Switch 7 in the backcountry.

A trip to the north is definitely on my list!

Video 4: Stout Whitewater! Nick McNutt & Ian McIntosh in BC

Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, known for his series "Let’s Take a Lap", where he rides with other pro skiers – all filmed from the GoPro perspective, making you feel like you’re right there with them.

This time it’s Hot Laps in Whitewater, with pillows, tree features, and lots of fun on a storm day. I met the three of them live, and the video definitely delivers on the promise of that day!

Video 5: Getting the legs back! by Finn Finestone

I didn’t know Finn before, but his small park video part convinced me with his style. If you’re looking for inspiration for rails and jumps – perfect for getting you amped up before your own session – this is the place to be!

Video 6: BTS - FORCE MAJEURE PT.2 (EUROPE)

Beyond Medals has been making some of the best snowboard movies for years. Period.

This one features some B-Roll and behind-the-scenes footage from the film weeks in Europe. Snowboarding just looks like magic in their films!

Contest of the Week: 2025 Research and Development by Natural Selection Tour

Last week in Whitewater, Nelson, the Natural Selection Women’s Pre-Event took place. The winners of this event qualify for the tour next year.

In the so-called Area Trash Chutes, 18 women battled it out over two days in a contest with short lines on spines, pillows, and kickers.

Sarka, who dropped out of the duels in Japan this year, still qualifies for the main event. Women’s snowboarding is in good hands – the day on the mountain and the Bends in the bar both got celebrated in style!

Hana Beaman behind the microphone was really funny, and the tricks were super stylish, with grabs and tons of fun. A beautiful event to experience and watch live!

History lesson: Seth Morrison

This week, I just felt like taking a look back at the days with Seth Morrison. His influence on the freeride scene is undeniable – he just went massive!
