Videos of the Week #16 2025/26 | L'Experience Magnifique

It's a full-send experiment in what's possible

02/20/2026
Hannes Hemper
Two contests this week: the Nendaz Backcountry Invitational and Kings & Queens in Corbet's. You can call them spectacles. Speedriding pilots in the French Alps, my favorite filmmaker and rider Jacob Callaghan in Japan and a short film from the perspective of parents who raised their son in the mountains. Plus fresh snow in the Alps. Get some inspiration - but watch out for your safety. There is also a nice video of a guide in Chamonix.

Video 1: L'Experience Magnifique

Three top athletes - perhaps a little crazy - in the French Alps with paragliders. But they don't just fly, they also ride down the craziest couloirs and snow surfaces that they can reach with their gliders. Speedriding is a sport that triggers adrenaline and fear at the same time - and yet (or precisely because of this) is incredibly beautiful. A loop in the narrowest gorges, just above rock and snow, everything at the limit. Filmed with FPV drone footage, which makes the movie visually extremely impressive.

Riders: Carl Weiseth, Jeff Katz and Chris Moody

Video 2: AO - A 16mm Anamorphic Film

Every time I see a new work by Jacob Callaghan, my heart leaps. This time shot entirely on 16mm - his last trip to Japan. Skiers and snowboarders together in front of the camera - that's exactly what I like about his work: the unification of worlds. Plus his unmistakable editing style, very artistic, almost dreamy. Five minutes of art.

Riders: Jacob Callaghan, Jesse Sheets, Haden McAllister, Jamie Diester, Anna Tedesco and Yuta Shimomura

Video 3: Nendaz Backcountry Invitational 2026 by The North Face

My favorite contest is back. A freeride contest with self-shoveled kickers. This year with a new venue and lots of new faces - but also OGs like Dennis Ranalter. Four women and ten men, three runs each. The best run wins. The judging is done by the riders themselves. Markus Eder unfortunately has to cancel due to injury, but his replacement has what it takes. See for yourself. Armada is once again on the podium - their scouting for the best young skiers is obviously working.

Video 4: A Guide's Book | Full Film by Rab

We accompany Pierre Idris "Pim" Mehdi in Chamonix. He is a mountain guide, and we get an honest insight into what it means to be responsible for clients in the mountains. Important perspectives and a well-deserved spotlight for guides, without whom many things would not be possible in the ski and snowboard scene. In addition, there are impressive shots on steep slopes and strong storytelling - in French with English subtitles.

Video 5: FROM SEA TO SKY

A short film from the perspective of two parents who raised their son Carter in the mountains - in the "corridor between sea and sky", as they call it. A beautifully made and touching film. And Carter? At 16, he's already a giant on skis. Another young talent under Armada. I'm looking forward to the next few years.

Rider: Carter Durlacher

Video 6: Davos Raw by Nalu Nussbaum

Just like last week, Nalu is back again this time. The upcomer is currently delivering consistently good content. A day in Davos, in his home park. So many creative lines, all filmed with Followcam and accompanied by raw sound. ASMR for skiers. Nalu is destined for greatness in the scene. I'm looking forward to his first SLVSH appearance or maybe in the Jib League.

Rider: Nalu Nussbaum

Video 7: SCORED | Full Movie by Quiksilver

A team movie of the heavy hitters: two veterans in Alaska - Travis Rice and Sammy Carlson - plus two newcomers, Austria's Werni Stock and Miles Fallon. You can guess what to expect: 20 minutes of Alaska spines, tricks and perfect shots. No storytelling, no blah blah blah. Skiing and snowboarding in its purest form - right at the top, in Alaska.

Riders: Travis Rice, Sammy Carlson, Werni Stock and Miles Fallon

Video 8: Parkin Costain's Backcountry Raw Files | 4K

After Josh Diak's GoPro video, this is the most impressive: so fast, so precise - micro-decisions that make the difference between success and a fall. Spoiler: there are a few falls. I met Parkin myself at Kicking Horse and did a lap with him. The man can ski and doesn't shy away from a line.

Rider: Parkin Costain

Video 9: Spark R&D EuroTrip 2026

A short video of the Spark Europe team through the season. Despite the high risk of avalanches, the team often stays in flatter terrain and relies on good days. France, Italy and Austria - friendship, team spirit and how to make the best of conditions that aren't always perfect.

Rider: Spark Team

Contest of the week: GoPro LIVE: Kings and Queens of Corbet's 2026 | Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

Most people are probably familiar with Corbet's, a couloir in Jackson Hole that has an extremely steep entrance, where a contest is held every year where they don't ride in, but jump tricks into the couloir. Sounds crazy, but it is. This year there are no high cork rotations, but there are dub backies, second women's backflip and style from Kaz and Quinn. And King and Queen are actually a couple - so well deserved :).
