Gear of the Week | How to Buff

  04/26/2026 • Pascal Schindler

Whether as a promotional gift from the last Movienight or a classy item from a specialist store; whether in bright orange or with modern patterns; made of polyester, cotton or merino wool: everyone who does any kind of outdoor sport knows buffs or collects countless ones in their drawer, of which they only use their favorite ones. But the possible uses go far beyond the classic neck warmer.

Gear of the Week | DIY ski/stocking wardrobe

  03/22/2026 • Pascal Schindler & Totti Lingotti

Whether it's a dusty memento from the attic or a much-loved piece of equipment that has just done its last duty. Instead of disposing of the old slats in the bulky waste, we are resurrecting them as stylish interior elements. In order to protect our beloved winter, the trend is towards a circular economy, and with it the upcycling of ski equipment. We at PowderGuide have put together our own projects to show you what a little time, creativity and sweat can do. Let's start with the wardrobe.

Short-term gear review | Atomic Shift² 16 MN

  02/27/2026 • Pascal Schindler

The first generation of the Shift revolutionized touring. With the Shift² 16 MN, Atomic now promises the ultimate upgrade: revised weak points, more metal and a completely new heel construction should make the binding stronger and enable a Z-value of up to 16. Is it really the perfect solution for freeriders? I chased it through Japow and boarded it over hard slopes to answer this question.

Gear of the Week | Outdoor seat pad for on the go

  01/04/2026 • Pascal Schindler

After the tour is before the snack: sun on your face, endless views, and then the question of where to actually sit down. You can turn your skis around, of course. It's more comfortable, warmer and much more relaxed with a small, foldable seat pad that fits into any ski touring backpack. An inconspicuous item with surprisingly great comfort and more benefits than you might think.

It's that time again, the end of the year is approaching and it's time for fireworks. As the year draws to a close and the first firecrackers go off in the valley, it's worth taking a look up there. Innsbruck has been celebrating its mountain New Year's Eve on the Nordkette since 1994.

Gear of the Week | DIY-Skishop

  12/14/2025 • Pascal Schindler

The first turns of the season have been made, but to be honest: There was still room for improvement. Classic: Over the summer, I completely forgot about the service and realized on the slopes that the slats were slowing down rather than gliding. So it was back to square one! With a few pallets, friends and hot wax, we now make the boards really smooth again. The next adventure can come - but this time with speed!

Gear of the Week | Photochromatic glasses

  12/07/2025 • Pascal Schindler

It's the weekend, the mountain is calling - and the same question arises as always: which glasses should I take with me? Classic sunglasses for bright skies - Blue Bird, as we love it - darken so much in flat light or whiteout that you can barely make out the contours. Glasses for bad weather, on the other hand, are so blinding in good weather that they hurt. So how practical it would be to have a single pair of glasses that automatically adapt to all light and weather conditions!

Gear of the Week | Binoculars

  11/30/2025 • Pascal Schindler

A small pair of binoculars in your backpack may seem like unnecessary burden at first. But anyone who is out and about in open terrain knows that good decisions often start with a better view. Whether it's about assessing distant slopes, observing other skiers or simply quietly observing the romance of the summit. Handy mini binoculars can do surprisingly much and weigh almost nothing.

Gear of the Week | UHU the two-component adhesive

  11/09/2025 • Pascal Schindler

When the powder calls and the rock answers, only one thing helps: UHU, the two-component glue for everyone and everything. If you don't want to give up on your skis after a core shot, a broken edge etc. and don't expect flawless boards, reach for the tube.

Gear of the Week | PHANTOM Glide by DPS

  10/19/2025 • Pascal Schindler

The temperatures are dropping, the leaves are falling - for many, it's the start of fall, but for others it's the anticipation of the new ski season. And with it, the thought of something that many like to suppress: the care of the boards. First and foremost, waxing. But what if it only had to be done once? Apply it once and the skis would retain their gliding properties permanently. This is exactly what PHANTOM Glide from DPS Skis promises.

Gear of the Week | DIY-Figl - Old slats, new life

  04/20/2025 • Pascal Schindler

Are you such a big Figl fan that you’re tired of borrowing them? Or maybe you’re just into a bit of DIY and want to give your old skis a second life? Then you’re in the right place. In this edition of Gear of the Week, I’ll show you how a friend and I built our own pair of Figl skis one morning – true to the motto: quick and dirty. Two weeks ago, I introduced Figln as a spring ritual and shared a bit about its origins. Today, we’re getting hands-on: time to grab the tools and dive in.
