First impression
As the name suggests, the Aurion 3L jacket and pants are typical 3-layer hardshells. You can quickly see that they are designed more for ski tourers, especially due to their low weight and pack size. This is partly due to the lightweight material and partly due to the lack of excessive features - for example, the jacket does not have a snow skirt. Dermizax was chosen as the membrane, which is also well suited to the area of use thanks to its high breathability.
The combination is very well made and has several useful storage pockets: two patch pockets on the front of the thighs on the trousers, two hand warmer pockets on the sides of the jacket and two offset, large pockets on the front. These pockets are also ideal for storing larger items such as skins or a map. There is also a small ski pass pocket on the left sleeve of the jacket.
The ventilation openings are also generously sized to suit the intended use. The jacket can be tightened and sealed against wind and snow using the adjustment straps on the hood and hem of the jacket and the large Velcro fasteners on the sleeves. The trousers can be adjusted in width using an integrated belt and have solid cut protection inserts on the inside of the thighs.
Tester and test conditions
I am 183 cm tall and weigh 80 kg. I tested the jacket and trousers in size L. The size fits me well and leaves enough room for several layers under the hardshell without the clothing being too loose. A little tighter would still work, but size M would probably be too small for me.
I've worn the combo on all my ski tours so far this winter, although the number has been limited due to the moderate snow conditions. That's why I've also worn the combo on a few days in the ski resort. In total, I have probably tested them on a good 15 days in a wide variety of conditions.
I tested the combo in the attractive but inconspicuous olive green color. They are also available in wax yellow and black.
