Gear review | PUSHrack SNOWbag & SNOW Update
02/14/2026 • Johanna Korte & Totti LingottiAn astonishing number of campers have been using the PUSHcomponents bike rack for several years now. Mounting with the handlebars on the rear doors, which was still conspicuous at the beginning, has already established itself as normal. The ski, snowboard and cross-country ski holders and the SNOWbag from PUSHcomponents are even less common. We have tested the SNOWbag and provide an update on the options for attaching winter sports equipment to campers and vans. -

A Month in the Far North by Van
01/22/2026 • Lydia Knappe, Denis Pecaut & Lea SteinbergIn Lyngen we found a place where skiing, packrafting, and everyday logistics blend into a steady rhythm shaped by weather and terrain. Over the course of a month we moved between birch forests, steep north faces, and calm fjord crossings, discovering stunning places and revealing many more we now hope to return to. The experience was not only about memorable moments, but above all about the simple, continuous exploration that the far north invites. -

11/13/2025 • Hannes HemperIn January 2024, the time had come - a flight to another continent. Endless expanses, valley after valley. Not so different at first glance: mountains, trees, snow. But where are the villages? An eight-hour drive and just three real villages. And then: Nelson on Kootenay Lake. A little gem, full of love - and even more snow. -

WinterCamping | In the sign of the Südstau - Part I
01/23/2025 • Totti LingottiFor several years now, a handful and a half of friends have been getting together once a winter to explore more or less distant mountain regions on skis and splitboards, but also to get to know other countries and cultures. They have travelled far to Romania, Kamchatka or Armenia, but have also travelled closer, for example to Ticino. This time, in winter 2023/24, the destination was chosen by lottery for the Julian Alps in Slovenia, with the additional requirement of 'winter camping'. The fresh snow forecast maps on PowderGuide.com were particularly colourful for the start and everyone was full of anticipation. But things turned out a little differently than planned... read the first part to find out how the first few days went! -

01/02/2024 • Johanna KorteThe manufacturer Blackroll, the rolls royce among fascia rolls, has now also launched a neck cushion on the market. Sleep is immensely important for our regeneration and our well-being is also heavily dependent on our sleep. For this reason, it is worth taking a closer look at the pillow. -

Snow of tomorrow | Corona, camping and going to the loo on the mountain
11/30/2020 • Benjamin Stern (ÖAV)
"The summer was good, even better than in previous years." Petra Zwölfer from Hotel Lamm in the mountaineering village of St. Jodok, Schmirn- & Valsertal. She confirms a trend that was also noticeable in other regions: Corona has increased the population's need for fresh air and exercise. And rightly so, considering that the risk of infection is significantly higher indoors than outdoors. -

Spend the night in the car | Freeriding in skibum-style
11/21/2012 • Gregor SieberAlmost all freeriders are familiar with the problem of scarce resources. It is usually the powder that is scarce, sometimes the time and especially with younger freeriders - typically students know what we are talking about - it is often the lack of monetary resources that is lacking. One way to minimize a major cost driver when freeriding is the overnight stay. We present some tips and tricks on how to spend the night in a motor vehicle in a reasonably humane and socially acceptable way. -

Pan-America road trip | Part 2
02/27/2009 • Jonas Blum
"Seek and ye shall find." This truism has proven to be true to a large extent on our trip so far. In our search for snow, we found Retired heating engineers, car mechanics who can't help, party mad snowboard pros, the nicest ski resort staff, cool locals and a first timer. Only the much-praised Canadian fresh snow is a master at hiding.
