Haute Route

When Hugo and I had to take a break from our ski traverse of Switzerland due to illness only ten days into the trip (see part 1) we were not quite sure how our epic 7-week adventure of ski touring through the Swiss Alps could keep going on. Camping in a tent, suffering through all sorts of weather and knocking on people’s doors in posh ski resort towns in hope of finding a place to crash had all taken a toll. But after a one-week break during which I managed to recover decently, we were ready to give it another shot and met again in the Sagliains train station in the Inn valley.

This alert is not an alert, at least not in the alert period, because it is too warm to use it until Tuesday. But more on that below.

The Xtreme Verbier took place, everyone arrived safely at the bottom and it was really great fun. Then suddenly people turn up who we've been missing all winter: Markus Eder, Cody Townsend and Yann Rausis!

The tour of the Trois Cols is a popular high-alpine skitour near Argentière and leads into a world far away from the infrastructure and ski hustle and bustle. Thanks to lift support in the Grands Montets resort, you can cover a considerable number of metres in just one day and cross several impressive glacier basins along the way. This very varied tour rewards you with magnificent views of the steep north faces of Argentière and the Mont Blanc massif.

Like the weather, like the VdW. It's been a while since the first hopeful snowfalls, so early winter video production has come to a bit of a standstill. Apart from a fresh patrol, we take a look back: in two season edits and in a gem from the old days. Ordered by ascending sight, with the best at the end. Have fun!

The Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt; a much-traveled, challenging classic. This high alpine ski crossing leads through some of the most spectacular Alpine regions; it offers incredible descents, but also long daily stages and challenging alpine terrain. Without a doubt, the 5-6 day ski crossing is one of the highlights in the life of a tourer or freerider. Anthony was enthusiastic, but the huts seemed a little too "luxurious" for him.
