Gear review | Valhalla Bamboo 104
03/09/2026 • Max EliasA comparison between a freeride ski and a Black Forest gateau may seem unusual at first glance, as they are two fundamentally different things: a piece of sports equipment and a culinary product. Nevertheless, some metaphorical parallels can be drawn here: Both skis and cakes are made by industrious craftsmen with expertise and attention to detail - craftsmanship and tradition. They represent a combination of traditional materials and modern production techniques. - Enjoyment and experience: skiing in open terrain offers an intense and eventful skiing experience. Enjoying a Black Forest gateau is at least as sensual an experience, where flavors and textures merge. -

Snow depth prediction game 2025/2026 - Jubilee season
11/06/2025 • Anselm KöhlerThere is one thing you can take away from last winter: It can only get better. In terms of the amount of snow, the winter was weak and had long enough dry spells between new snowfalls. This winter got off to a better start. The first PowderAlert came unexpectedly early, and the first ConditionsReports have already arrived and look promising. Let's keep our fingers crossed for Ullr that it will once again cover the mountains properly. Of course, the snow depth prediction game is back - this time in the 10th anniversary edition or tradition! -

PowderAlert 2 2024 /25 | Christmas warm-up
12/18/2024 • Lars OelmannIt's finally that time again. Christmas time, PowderAlert time. And not just one but two holidays are coming up, because Ullr has finally woken up from hibernation. At the beginning of December, it looked like there would be a real second PowderAlert, but two days before the Alert was due to take place, it was swiftly cancelled and instead of the expected 70-100cm, we got 20-30cm. The oracle was quite surprised at the accuracy of today's crystal ball. That's why PowderAlerts always come just before the snowfall, because nothing is worse than snow that doesn't fall but has been hyped up in advance. Now the time has come, because first there will be a little warm-up until Friday evening and then the second Alert will come on Saturday with a really big bag of fresh snow, then also in the EAST! -

Snow Height Betting Game 2024/2025
11/21/2024 • Anselm KöhlerThe dry autumn with late summer flair in the golden larch forests and south-facing rock faces is coming to an end, and Ullr is sending us winter greetings for the second time. During the first greeting in mid-September, the first turns were already enjoyed, but the snow did not last. This second greeting hopefully heralds the start of winter, and we can start the PowderAlert series with snow height betting games as usual and bet on a strong winter. -

PowderAlert 1 2024/25 | Make skiing great again!
11/21/2024 • Lars OelmannIn times of crisis, people are happy to see not only the colours of the traffic lights in the news (german politics joke), but also the best colour of all, white. Educated physicists with an affinity for art may now lament that it is not a colour, but the oracle doesn't care, because white is the colour of love. The love of any freerider and finally we get to see it again on our beloved mountains. -

Snow Depth Betting Game 2023/2024
11/24/2023 • Anselm KöhlerRumour has it that winter and the time of white splendour is finally here. And finally the scratching on the glacier remains or scraping on the grassy slopes will be replaced by real freeriding opportunities. Once again, the snow depth betting game will help you to correctly estimate where the most snow will fall. -

Gear Review | Valhalla 115 Bamboo
12/20/2022 • Max EliasIn a small factory in the centre of beautiful Freiburg im Breisgau, Frederic Andes produces fine skis and snowboards in small series by hand and with great attention to detail. Valhalla Ski's core business is lightweight, wide powder skis. These are available in different widths with three lengths each and in different core options, from super light to light. What all boards have in common is the demand for the most sustainable production possible and the greatest possible durability. -

Gear of the Week | Valhalla 115 Bamboo
03/27/2022 • Max EliasWhen Nordic philologists hear the term Valhalla, they think of the resting place of fallen warriors from Scandinavian mythology. PowderGuide users are more likely to think of the legendary movie sequence from the ski movies of the same name, in which a mountain full of naked skiers and snowboarders presents itself. -

Gear of the Week | Christmas Special 2021
12/05/2021 • PowderGuideOne thing is clear, Christmas 2021 will once again be characterised by the coronavirus in one form or another. Unfortunately. So even at the beginning of December, many people are still not sure how they will spend Christmas, when they will get out into the snow, how the winter season, and in fact life as a whole, will continue over the next few months. -

01/21/2021 • Olav SchmidFrederic Andes and the Valhalla team build high-quality skis by hand, which are manufactured entirely in Freiburg. The shapes are aimed at the freeride touring sector and are correspondingly light, with particular attention paid to a durable construction during production. I took a look at Valhalla and asked Freddi a few questions. I also took a ski with me to test, you can find my impressions after the interview.
