Finally, more female-led segments this week! A podcast with Ella, the founder of the Swedish women’s magazine Grab, and a couloir ascent with Mali. Plus, there are two cool behind-the-scenes looks at snowboard and ski development—for all you gear fanatics! For all you style lovers, there’s Ryo Aizawa’s snowboarding and an all-time team-up of snowboard legends.

Video 1: The Art of Carving | A Donek Snowboard Documentary

Hats off! Tech talk, interviews, and deep insights into the carving community. What’s behind the boards and the legends of the sport? A truly outstanding documentary! A must-watch for all tech nerds and snowboarders. These days, everyone just wants to land bigger tricks and do more rotations, but they often forget the simplest thing: a turn is all about precision and control! This aspect of snowboarding is just cool!

Riders: Sean Martin, Katie Tsuyuki, Mellen Jay, Dave Hollander, Ryan Knapton

Video 2: SKInning by White Hornet Productions

Simon Koslowski, aka Floeki, is a filmmaker from Bavaria, and I met him in Innsbruck. He now works on a wide variety of TV projects for BR and, together with Luis Hofbauer, shoots ski videos under the White Hornet Productions banner! SKInning is their latest project, in which Luis rides three lines in the spring under interesting snow conditions. To reach the remote lines, they use their e-mountain bikes. It’s a standout thanks to its cool camerawork, editing, and storyline—complete with interviews and humor!

Video 3: Searching for Ryo Aizawa by Wasted Talent

Ryo Aizawa is a magician on a snowboard; he has his first pro-model boot with Vans and now this short film. What color grading, what style! Wasted Talent follows him around Japan and brings us this artistic video! It’s cool to see more from him!

Rider: Ryo Aizawa

Video 4: K2 Presents: Making a Mindbender

The K2 development team takes us behind the scenes of ski development. I spent a day with them in Whitewater, Nelson, BC, and watched them test skis. What’s the creative process behind a ski? What’s science, what’s intuition, and how do they discuss these things among themselves? A cool little documentary that gives gear nerds a deeper look into the world of skis.

Behind the documentary are Henri Halle and Kyle Evers. I stayed with them for a week in Seattle. They simply love skiing—and do so much more! Thanks!

Podcast of the Week: Video 5: Old Head New Head #38 Ella Lewander

Two Plankers: Old Head New Head features Eric Iberg and Ethan Schafer. They interview the most influential figures and creative minds in the world of skiing. This week’s guest: Ella Lewander. The latest episodes, in particular, are bringing a lot of attention to women in skiing. Awesome! Ella is the founder of Grab Magazine, a women’s-only magazine that organizes competitions and meetups. She’s Magnus’s (Skimanguy) partner and is working super hard to carve out a space for women in the scene!

Rider: Ella Lewander

Video 6: FRIGGIN' FORTY | A Snowboard Short Film

Mark Sollors and Rusty Ockenden from @MegafaunaSNOW both turned 40 this year and are still shredding together. They’ve known each other since childhood and are legends of the sport. It’s cool to see them still out there and to get a film from them that wasn’t planned—it just happened! That’s how I want to still be out in the snow when I’m 40. Inspiring!

Video 7: In 18 Years, No One Has Repeated This Ski Route From the Summit (Comstock Couloir via Dawson Ridge)

Mali first attempted this route with Cody Townsend and Greg Hill, but had to turn back. This past January, she returned with a team and gave it another try. The couloir was first skied in 2008 by Greg Hill and friends! What an exciting episode featuring extreme winter camping, scouting missions, and a 14-hour expedition! I’m already looking forward to the next episode of her web series Rapid Fire.

Riders: Mali Noyes, Emrik Villeneuve, Laurent Mathieu, Spencer Harkins

Video 8: Storm Chasing in JAPAN | Otaru Powder Skiing by guspatcho

A cool web series about four guys traveling through Japan in their RV. Really cool editing with graphics and explanations at the beginning. I definitely have to check out their older episodes! In this episode, they take us to Sapporo, explore the area, and show us what everyday life is like living in an RV in Japan.

Video 9: A Casual Day Out With Jeremy Jones, Xavier de Le Rue, and Pica Herry

What’s there to say? Three absolute legends of the sport. Together on one run? An all-time gathering! Even for them: Xavier hadn’t hit the slopes with Jeremy and Pica in 15 years. They’ve shared podiums at FWT stops, and each of them is a pillar of big-mountain snowboarding. They visited Xavier while he was filming his latest run for his current video project in Italy. Just a normal day. In Xavier’s life, maybe.
