The PIEPS brand has stood for innovation in snow safety since 1967. The safety of our partners, community and customers is a top priority at PIEPS. They are therefore voluntarily recalling the PIEPS PRO IPS avalanche transceiver (avalanche transceiver) due to a possible loss of contact in the battery compartment. As a solution, they will repair the affected devices and return them to customers within seven working days of receiving.
Voluntary recall: PIEPS PRO IPS
Recall due to possible battery contact problems
In November 2024, PIEPS became aware of a case in North America in which a PIEPS PRO IPS avalanche transceiver could not be switched on. Our investigations revealed that this was due to a possible loss of contact in the battery compartment. This can occur if AAA batteries (LR03) are used that were manufactured at the lower end of the permissible standard length. In this case, the device may no longer switch on or it may switch off accidentally if it is subjected to an impact or vibration.
Affected devices:
This recall affects all PIEPS PRO IPS avalanche transceivers that were manufactured and sold between 1st of October 2023 and 22nd of November 2024 and whose serial numbers with the first four digits are in the range of 2326 - 2445. The serial number can be found on the label on the inside of the battery compartment cover.
Customers who own the PIEPS PRO IPS should stop using it with immediate effect and comply with the recall measures.
To date, they have only received one report from a customer and there have been no injuries or fatalities in this context. PIEPS is endeavouring to resolve this matter quickly and proactively.
The repair includes replacing the centre battery contacts to prevent the battery from slipping in the battery compartment. Each refurbished avalanche transceiver will undergo a rigorous quality check before being returned to you within seven working days of receiving. Further information, including some frequently asked questions (FAQ), and the initiation of the recall procedure can be found on this website.
They sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this recall may cause. We realise that the timing of this recall, so close to the winter season, is not ideal, but the safety of our customers is our top priority. Therefore, they have decided to take this step and will do everything in their power to ensure that all customers receive their PIEPS PRO IPS device back as soon as possible.
